What counts as a boutique here

Independent advisory firms with a genuine New York practice: elite boutiques you have heard of, ten-person M&A shops you have not, restructuring and special-situations specialists, and sector-focused houses from healthcare to tech. Most are partner-owned and small enough that analysts sit in the deal, not adjacent to it.

The big global banks are left out on purpose. Their recruiting pipelines are already famous; this list exists for the firms that never post a job.

Full detail on sourcing and verification is on the methodology page.

Common questions

How many boutique investment banks are there in New York?

FirmScope currently tracks 655 in New York. The number moves as firms launch, merge or wind down, and the database is updated as that happens.

Why target boutiques instead of the bulge bracket?

Far fewer applicants per seat, live deal exposure from day one, and hiring that mostly happens off-cycle through direct approaches. Many New York boutiques fill analyst seats without ever advertising them.

Does the list include websites and contacts?

The public page shows names, size and focus. Working website and LinkedIn links, named contacts where the firm publishes one, plus search, filters, notes and an outreach tracker are part of the paid product. A free account previews a small sample.
